Ennea-Type Five

Fixation: Stinginess                    Higher Mind: Omniscience
Passion: Avarice                         Virtue: Non-Attachment

Emotionally detached and extraordinarily perceptive, Ennea-type Fives like to observe the world from a safe and protected distance. With attention focused on collecting knowledge, they hide out behind books and piles of data, making themselves invisible. Fives report that they are able to get in touch with their feelings better when they are alone, and prefer self-sufficiency to relationships. At their best they can be wizards, cool decision makers and brilliant analysts. At worst, others will see them as withdrawn and aloof.

Strengths: Head-based, Mental Brilliance, Dependable, Self-Sufficient, Objective
Limitations: Head-based dominant, Detached, Restrictive, Restrained, Unavailable, Secretive
Body Armoring: Mind over matter approach plus fear of invasion interferes with natural instinctive responsiveness, specifically, the fight/flight response which ends up chronically on red alert.
Recommended Body Modality: Centering thru Feldenkrais, Breathwork, Relaxation Massage, Martial Arts and Meditation help to turn fight/flight response off, allowing these serious introverts to explore the practice of a "no pleasure, no gain" approach w/attention on sensation and emotion rather than thought.

Ennea-Type Six

Fixation: Cowardice                              Higher Mind: Faith
Passion: Fear/Doubt                            Virtue: Courage

Dutiful and loyal, but also fearful and plagued with doubt, Ennea-type Six focuses attention on what might be dangerous and threatening to safety and security. That means questioning the legitimacy of authority, who can be trusted in general, and identifying with underdog causes. At best Sixes are courageous, hard working troopers, astute critics with a Woody Allen sense of humor, and interesting out of the box thinkers. They are terrific at ferreting out hidden motives of others and pitfalls along the way. At worst, others may be frustrated by procrastination and paranoia.

Motivation: To feel safe, secure and prepared in a threatening and dangerous world.
Strengths: Head-based, Loyal, Trustworthy, Intuitive, Warm, Great Trouble Shooter
Limitations: Head-based dominant, Paranoid, Anxious, Insecure, Overly cautious, Worst case scenarioizing.
Body Armoring: Worst-case scenario thinking creates chronic fear in the body that interferes with natural instinctive responsiveness, specifically, the fight/flight response, which ends up chronically on red alert.
Recommended Body Modality: Similar to type Five, Centering thru Aikido, Shaitsu and Relaxation Massage help to clear the mind and at least turn down the fight/flight response. Practicing a "no pleasure, no gain" approach w/attention on sensation rather than thought can be very helpful.

Ennea-Type Seven

Fixation: Planning                                   Higher Mind: Work
Passion: Gluttony                                    Virtue: Sobriety

Agile, optimistic planners and inspiring networkers Ennea-type Sevens report they like to connect concepts that don’t appear at first glance to be related. Masters of the art of the possible and idiosyncratic visionaries, Sevens at their best are gifted, perceptive, witty enjoyers of live. Magical thinkers who prefer to avoid conflict, closure and routine, at their worst, others may experience them as narcissistic, irresponsible Peter Pans or self serving romancers who refuse to grow up.

Motivation: To enjoy and experience life to its fullest.
Strengths: Head-based, Optimistic, Playful, Inventive, Visionary, Charming and Disarming, Quick Minded
Limitations: Head-based dominant, Impatient, Narcissistic, Commitment Phobic, Charlatanism
Body Armoring: Monkey mind and demand for instant gratification interfere with natural instinctive responsiveness, specifically, the fight/flight response which ends up chronically on red alert.
Recommended Body Modality: Centering thru Mediation, Relaxation Massage, Rolfing, Martial Arts - anything that slows the mind and helps these tricksters to focus on sensation and emotion rather than happy thoughts of future adventures and inventions.

Ennea-Type Eight

Fixation: Vengeance                              Higher Mind: Truth
Passion: Lust                                           Virtue: Innocence

Powerful, straightforward, intense, dictatorial, take charge Ennea-type Eights focus attention on power and control: who has it and how to get it. They know their own strength and their opponent’s weaknesses, which makes them feel invulnerable. Their penchant for excess – too much, too soon, too loud, too often – makes them lusty characters who can get into trouble. They enjoy conflict and believe the truth comes out in a fight. At their best they can be excellent leaders even empire builders, who are not afraid to speak truth to power and protect the weak. At worst they behave like bullies taking advantage of the weak. They have a hard time following orders, controlling their anger, or being emotionally vulnerable.

Motivation: To be powerful and in control.
To gain respect by protecting the weak and the innocent.
Strengths: Body-based, Truthful, Courageous, Fair, Decisive, Self-Assertive, Inspiring Leaders
Limitations: Body-based dominant, Vengeful, Dominating, Combative, Excessive, Messy, Invulnerable, Cruel
Body Armoring: Braun over mind approach stiffens joints and numbs body to interfere with natural instinctive responsiveness, specifically, the territorial response (the expression of healthy anger).
Recommended Body Modality: Centering thru Breathwork, Feldenkrais, Relaxation Massage, Meditation and the martial arts help open the body allowing an awareness of sensation and emotion to emerge.

Ennea-Type Nine

Fixation: Indolence                                  Higher Mind: Love
Passion: Sloth                                           Virtue: Right Action

Gentle, warm, slow moving, easily distracted, go with the flow Ennea-type Nines see the truth in everybody’s position while forgetting their own. With attention defused, Nines like to see the whole picture, avoiding what ever makes them feel uncomfortable. Their ability too see all sides makes them wonderful negotiators, peace keepers, and bodyworkers. At their best these often times shy, quiet peacemakers are trustworthy, kind, dedicated people with minimal needs and desires. They like life to be comfortable and for others to accept them as they are. At worst they can be lazy and inattentive to what is essential at work, in relationship and most importantly, to themselves.

Motivation: To be at peace with themselves and with the world.
Strengths: Body-based, Empathic, Accepting, Patient, Stable, Comforting, Co-operative, Calm, Natural
Limitations: Body-based dominant, Passive/Aggressive, Neglectful of Self, Over-Compliant, Status Quo Thinkers, Go Along to Get Along
Body Armoring: Conflict avoidant, laid back attitude numbs thinking and allows gravity to burden joints and muscles to interfere with natural instinctive responsiveness, specifically, the territorial response (the expression of healthy anger).
Recommended Body Modality: Centering thru Breathwork, Feldenkrais, Relaxation Massage, Martial Arts helps to stimulate body awareness and an interest in developing an internal focus. Nines thrive when they become aware of their own needs and talents and are allowed to use the intelligence of the body to recognize the sensation that energy brings to the body.
